Game Boy

Portable console released in 1989

Unlike the Game & Watch series, the Game Boy could simply change games by swapping cartridges. The initial model was 8-bit with a 4 color screen. The later model, the Game Boy Color, upped this number to 54 simultaneous colours.

Big Game Boy Kiosk

The Big Game Boy Kiosk is a kiosk resembling a giant Game Boy that only appeared in Japan, and was used to promote the Game Boy soon after its initial launch. The kiosk functions similar to a Game Boy developer kit called "Demo Vision"; inside the kiosk is an original Game Boy console, that connects to a modified Famicom board via something resembling a VGA display cable. This board is powered by a Famicom AC Adapter, which powers the Game Boy and connects it to the TV via monaural AV cables. The television itself is a 14" Sharp CRT TV (model number 14C-RM2). The Game Boy is accessible via the hole below the screen. It will display the same visuals as the TV, output the same sound as the TV and can be used to control the game. None of the giant buttons on the kiosk are used for anything, though a lock is placed where the battery light usually would be. This can be unlocked so the store owner can access the TV controls.
